2021/2022 Season Review

The 2021/2022 season for the Weyburn Wrestling Club is officially in the books. Despite continuing to face challenges related to the COVID pandemic, we were able to run a full program this season with many highlights to celebrate.

First, I would like to thank the Weyburn Youngfellows for their generous donation of $6,600 to help the club purchase protective wall pads for our practice room. Not only does the addition of the new wall pads clean the room up visually, it offers a great deal of safety for our athletes.

Our tournament, The Barber Motors Open was held for the first time in two years this past December with over 120 athletes attending from across Saskatchewan. This was the first opportunity for many of our athletes to participate in a competition. Everyone had a lot of fun being back together as this was the first official wrestling event in Saskatchewan since before the pandemic.

The season was a success for our athletes with many medals won at tournaments in Weyburn, Swift Current and Saskatoon. The season concluded in Martensville with the Sask Wrestling provincial tournament where several athletes took home gold, silver and bronze medals.

All things considered, we are very, very pleased with how the season went and are already making plans for next year.

Stay tuned for more announcements about a free wrestling clinic in September for anyone who wants to come see what wrestling is all about.

Have a great summer everyone.

Thanks you for supporting the Weyburn Wrestling Club!

Coach Mike
