ABOUT THE WEYBURN WRESTLING CLUB
The Weyburn Wrestling Club started in 1996 when Kevin Butz, a teacher at the junior high, began running after-school practices for boys and girls who were interested in the sport. The program quickly grew to include practices for all age groups with the help of dedicated community coaches and volunteers including Travis and Anita Franklin, Ken Kot and Mike Chuckry, who currently remains involved with the club executive.
Our club is fortunate to have a permanent wrestling room located in the gymnasium at Soo Line Daycare. The facility boasts over 2400 square feet of practice space, including new mats and wall pads that were installed this summer!
Wrestlers from Weyburn consistently compete at provincial and national championships each year. Several of the club’s alumni have gone on to wrestle at the university and international levels and will often visit the club to help coach at practices and clinics whenever possible.
The Weyburn Wrestling Club is committed to providing an opportunity for youth to learn, train and compete in the sport of wrestling. We are a proud member of the Saskatchewan Amateur Wrestling Association and work closely with our provincial counterparts to host clinics and tournaments in Weyburn each year, in addition to our weekly practices and training sessions.
We believe in wrestling and the positive influence it can make on the lives of those young people who are brave enough to step on the mats.
